Logistics concept study for the reorganization of logistics processes and production control

Optimization of logistics layout and control in Roermond, the Netherlands. From Roermond, goods are sent directly to the end customers, based on the order information that is delivered from the central SAP.

Production volume has risen sharply in recent years, necessitating a redesign of logistics processes and production control. In addition, the following problem fields play:

  • The number of errors in delivery to customers must be reduced.
  • The existing (in-house build) MES system must be reviewed.
  • The central (sales) organization wants a better understanding of the order status.

Objectives

  • Determine how the logistics organization (storage of packaging materials, supply to production lines, removal of finished product, delivery of finished product including loading trucks) should be expanded / optimized
  • Investment costs
  • Influence of the expansion / optimization on operational costs

Advice

  • Optimized layout
  • No mixed traffic
  • Future extension possible without disordering layout
  • Clear waiting zone for trucks
  • Controlable waiting zone for drivers
  • Weather protected staging/storage areas
  • Improved truck loading with loading docks
  • Wide aisle’s for high volume transports
