Seco
Seco is one of the world’s largest providers of comprehensive metal cutting solutions for milling, stationary tools, holemaking and tooling systems. Seco develops and supplies the technologies, processes and supports that manufacturers depend on to maximize productivity and profitability.
Seco has its European DC in Houthalen-Belgium. This EDC is supplying the Seco product range within a delivery period of 24 hours to its clients in Europe.

Logistics concept study for new DC
At the time of the study:
An earlier study by Van Looy Group showed that the existing Seco DC in Houthalen (B)
did not have the technical possibilities to cope with the future growth.
The opportunities of a new DC according to a greenfield design are to be investigated.
Objectives
After drafting the current state material flow diagram, the purpose is to analyse, calculate and evaluate the different possible logistics solutions, for storage as well for handling, taking into account the growth figures for the next years. The time horizon for evaluation is defined at 10 years.
Result
A concept design based on zone picking (pick-to-light) for A-movers and a goods-to-person solution driven by miniload cranes for B- and C-movers was presented and demonstrated a significant OPEX reduction.
